Tips and tricks for home office

Tips and tricks for home office

The global spread of COVID-19 is keeping people at home. Everyone who works remotely has to figure out when to work, where to work, and how to create boundaries between work and personal life. Work-life balance is super important when work and life happen in the same place, often at the same time.

Obviously, there are benefits to working from home, such as reduced travel time, spending less time on preparations, savings on gas/tickets and meals. Unfortunately, there can be distractions, though. The laundry needs to be done. Your neighbour has to cut the lawn at noon. Your dog wants out. Your children don't quite understand the concept that working at home is still working. Your back is crying out for a better chair than the kitchen one.

Like everyone, you need to figure out what works best for you. Sometimes the answer is clear, but other times you might need some inspiration or advice from other people who has similar experiences.

Find out some tips on how to manage the most common distractions:

  1. Don’t hesitate to ask for what you need. It’s extremely important to request the equipment you need to get your job done, including a comfortable office chair, mouse, keyboard, monitor.
  2. Set up the workspace. Try to find a designated place to work, try to avoid working from bed, on the sofa, or other places which have a different purpose.
  3. Start and end your workday with a routine. Create habits that signal the start and end of your work. It can be a morning/evening walk with your dog, workout at the same hour every day. Something as simple as shutting down your computer and turning on your favourite Netflix series. Whatever you choose, do it consistently to mark the start and end of your workday.
  4. Take breaks. Know the company’s policy on break times and take them in their entirety.
  5. Take sick days. When you’re not feeling well take sick leave when it’s possible. Sometimes it's better to rest and recover so that you can be much more productive in the long term.
  6. Leave home. When it’s allowed and safe during Covid-19, get out of the house. Your body needs to move. Additionally, the fresh air and natural daylight make you feel better.
  7. Set strict rules with other people in your space. Working from home is still working. You cannot take all of the home duties by default just because you’re home. Your productivity may suffer, your working hours may extent.

ALK targeting food allergy

ALK targeting food allergy

One of the most common allergies in the world is food allergies. After almost a century of competencies and experiences, ALK is now expanding its product portfolio and venturing into new horizons: food.

Food allergies in most cases are problematic in that the only way to protect yourself is to avoid the allergen, which greatly affects the quality of life.

A peanut allergy occurs when a person’s immune system, which normally fights infections, does not recognize peanut protein and mistakenly overreacts to it. It is one of the foods that often cause severe allergic reactions called anaphylaxis. In some cases, just trace amounts of one milligram can trigger a reaction while a peanut weighs between 500 and 1,000 milligrams.

There is one authorized product for peanut allergy specifically on the market right now, but there is always space for improvement.

“We believe that we can make a real difference for people with food allergy. We are lucky to have some of the best minds working for us and mixing this with our strong commercial infrastructure, we are in the right position to expand our current product portfolio with new AIT products in the food allergy space. These will fuel ALK’s long-term growth and help the many people whose lives are severely impacted by food allergies,” says Henrik Jacobi, EVP R&D.

Even though a drug development program can take more than six years, and ALK is at the begging of this journey, the peanut program is now being prepared for clinical development.

A Christmas Party in March? Why not :)

A Christmas Party in March? Why not :)

Due to the pandemic situation, we have postponed the December Christmas Party to March so that the meeting could take place in safe conditions.

ALK wanted to thank employees for the entire 2021 year. So, we couldn't miss this opportunity to meet and celebrate! Christmas, a new year, new challenges, year-end closing processes - there were so many occasions to celebrate.

The team-building meeting was held on the 25th of March at the Vistula Port Restaurant. It was a very nice time spent together. We ate and danced until late at night. It was great to reconnect and share experiences, thoughts and wishes for the future. Even a few members of the Marketing and Sales Team from other parts of Poland came to Krakow after a long time.

After a difficult pandemic time, we hope that this is the last time we postponed the team-building meeting, and we will be able to see each other regularly already. A brighter time has come!

Welcome New Teams in ALK GBSC

Welcome New Teams in ALK GBSC

We are happy to announce that Consumer Digital Operations and Consumer Marketing Teams will have members in PL.

Those two teams as a part of Consumer Care Organisation, are reaching out to our patients by an amazing barnd ‘Klarify.’ Klarify’s mission is to make living with allergy as simple as possible. For most people with allergies, getting a diagnosis and treatment is a long and complicated journey without a clear resolution.

Klariffy is an ALK's Consumer to Patient (C2P) engagement eco-system- online tool which invites users to test how well their allergies are controlled. Based on their answers, it suggests next steps, such as seeing a doctor specialised in allergy and AIT treatment. The websites also offer a location-based, searchable directory of qualified allergists and discussion guides to help facilitate dialogue with doctors.

klarify will be launched in Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Switzerland, and our new teams make it happen. Millions more people with allergies will have access to information about their condition and the latest digital tools – both website and app - to help them manage their allergies.
